A downloadable Game Brat

Byron's on YET another console. This time, it's the Game Boy, Nintendo's super wimpy, yet super popular handheld. When you start this ROM, Byron shrugs as an incompatibility warning is shown on the right.

The current plan is to make it so that a DIFFERENT warning comes up for every Game Boy system. Maybe even a Super NES border for the Super GameBoy! I'm working things out right now. GB Studio has ease of use as an advantage, while GB Basic has the versatility and familiarity of BASIC. I made this demo with GB Studio and Aseprite, for those wondering.

I don't know enough about the Game Boy hardware to give it a full hardware analysis... I'll need to put in more research, and do something meaningful with the machine beyond a silly demo. One thing I DO know is that four monochrome shades can be used to trick the eyes into seeing a whole lot of colors, depending on the context. Solomon's Club had an absolutely GORGEOUS ending screen, which means that an excellent artist could do a lot with this machine in spite of its limitations.

More later!

Run it in your favorite Game Boy emulator, or your favorite Game Boy. I'm not picky. This should run on real hardware (will test) up to the Game Boy Advance SP. The gravy train derails once you reach the Game Boy Micro and Nintendo DS.
